I was born approximately 2003, am a BIG BOY, around 65-70 lbs., but very CALM AND GENTLE and walk right beside the nice people here that take me for walks. I am very well-behaved inside, will lie down on my blanket and chew on a bone or just watch everything going on, coming over for pets and love every once in awhile. They said my skin looked like a rhinoceros hide. The nice Humane Society people have nursed me back to health. I now have the PRETTIEST RED HAIR and my skin feels so nice! They also gave me a good check-up, all of my shots and now, I am ready for my new home. I have heard that families and people are something every dog in the world dreams of. I don't even know how to dream about it but it sure sounds like what I want. Wow, people who care for me, feed me, take me to the vet and best of all - LOVE me, pet me, walk me and just want to share their life with me!!!!! I could get REAL used to that!!! My name is Jasmine. How do you spell 'grateful?' You spell it J-A-S-M-I-N-E ... that's me, JASMINE! I think I am the happiest, most grateful sweet girl you have ever met. I am a gorgeous strawberry blonde SHEPHERD-STAFFORDSHIRE terrier mix with a little white on my chest, a black muzzle, ears and eyeliner(!) and the most soulful brown eyes you have ever seen! I think I was born sometime in 2008. I was very, very sick and the wonderful Humane Society people rescued and loved me back to health. My best friend in the world, Juno ( Staffordshire mix, born in 2008) and I were all alone in the world. We were abandoned way out in the country, ... (Read More)lost with no hope of finding food, water, shelter or anyone to help us. We were so sick and malnourished that our immune systems were unable to fight off parasites that are normally natural and harmless in dogs. We had HUGE open wounds all over our bodies; they were so itchy that we scratched all of the time and this made everything even worse....many of our wounds were from the constant scratching. It hurt so much. We had lost a lot of our pretty fur and keeping warm became even more difficult. Our sores then got infected and the sores were so deep and raw... we were dying a very, very, slow, painful death of starvation, exposure and disease. One day we saw a white van and it slowed down and the man tried to coax us to come to him with some food. We were so afraid that we ran and hid...but he left us some food. The next day the man came back...we were still too afraid but he left us food again. He came back the third day and, again, tried to coax us to come to him. This time, so overwhelmed with hunger, we let him put us into his van. We didn't know he was from the Humane Society and that he was rescuing us...but we did feel relieved that we were now being cared for. We were so grateful that he was so patient and willing to keep coming back until he could rescue us... that's what the wonderful people at the shelter are like - loving, patient, and determined to rescue animals that need help. We were so relieved to be warm, dry, fed, and safe. They took us to the vets and they gave us lots of medicine. They kept us in their office where we had warm beds with soft blankets; it was so warm and clean and they talked to us all of the time. We had food every day, TREATS, and the itching gradually stopped and our wounds were lovingly cared for. We are now healing beautifully! We LOVE being cared for at the shelter.....people are so nice to us and they are so gentle and kind..... we didn't know that people could be like this! Our deep wounds have healed, our fur has grown back and we are healthy now. I never knew you could feel this good both on the inside and the outside! I heard them say that we are both ready for our forever loving homes with a family now. I don't know what a 'forever home' is nor what a 'family' is. I do know that having a warm, dry, bed inside is wonderful, a full tummy is so special, not itching is such a relief and people taking me for walks and loving on me is just... just.... just almost too much to believe. They say I LOVE ATTENTION AND AM SO FRIENDLY. I am calm, I walk nicely on a leash and will make a wonderful fur friend. I need time to warm up to strangers as I need reassurance that they will be my friend. I just know that I am such a happy, grateful sweet girl that loves everyone. I was born in 2011, so I am still a young puppy boy, although my body is full grown. They stopped and spoke with my owner, gave her instructions on how to care for me (the State laws), brought me a dog house, food and some hay for bedding. My owner ignored them... she left me chained in an area with no sanitation... and when it rained, it flooded with water knee deep. She never spread the hay to give me a dry area to lay down in and didn't care about me. I got a little food but I never had fresh water on a regular basis....sometimes I had to drink that dirty water on the ground. After several visits, the nice volunteer lady brought the police and rescued me and another dog. Boy..... were we ever grateful! Believe me, I think I am in doggy heaven here at the shelter! I have a nice, clean kennel where I can move around in and they let me RUN AND PLAY outside of my run!!! ... I have never had a chance to run and play before because I always had a short, heavy chain on me. The nice people here at the shelter give me lots of fresh water, food and treats. But, the best part is that people came to see me, pet me, and love on me! They said I was extremely afraid of them for the first month....I didn't know any other way to behave. It took me awhile to get over my shyness and distrust of people - I didn't know that people could be nice or caring. But now......I'm not shy anymore!!!!!! If I see anyone coming in my direction - I am HAPPY, wagging my tail, up and ready to have you pet me, love me, and take me for a walk! I'm a new friendly boy! The nice volunteers are teaching me all kinds of things that I need know for my new home....and I'm excited to learn anything they teach me. I'm really getting good at walking on a leash! No one ever tried to teach me anything before. My life is better now but they told me that it is going to get even better! They said that someday I am going to have an owner who will love and care for me, spoil me rotten, and treasure me! I will have a family!!! Are you my new owner and family??? Princess. Hi there, my name is Princess and I am the sweetest little Princess you will ever meet. I am a black LAB mix but I am not big like some labs - I'm DAINTY like a Princess! She was very pregnant and had her puppies within several days of arriving. She needed help in taking care of all my sisters and brothers as she was very young herself and malnourished. (Read More)were adopted, the Humane Society actually found me a home up north and I was so happy to be loved and cared for. I lived indoors, learned to 'potty' outside and was a very GOOD puppy. Sadly, I think they just fell in love with a puppy and, as I grew, maybe were not ready or willing to take responsibility for a new family member.I have some skin allergies and they couldn't be bothered helping me. So they returned me.... I wonder if they even miss me? I know I miss them and I miss not having a home. So, now I am living in a foster home and love my foster mom to pieces! I am sooo looking forward to my new home. I promise I will be so good. Everyone here says I am very friendly and that I get along nicely with other dog friends. I love to play with my ball too.... I carry it EVERYWHERE I go! I even keep it in my mouth when I have a drink.... the volunteers think I am so funny! I am learning to walk on a leash and know that I can do it.... but I'd rather have a big fenced in yard to run around in!
